DILI, 16 april 2024 (TATOLI) – Two Timorese athletes from Timor-Leste’s Karatedo will leave for Thailand, next week, to compete in the 11th South East Asian Karate Federation Championships 2024 (SEAKF-2024).
The two athletes will compete against many athletes from the ASEAN member countries.
The secretary-general of the Timor-Leste Karate Federation (FKTL), António Carlos de Araújo, said that the two athletes, Bartolomeu Fátima Araújo Lay and Ovidio da Conceição Reis, are ready to compete in the Championships.
Both athletes will compete in two different weight categories, Bartolomeu will compete in the 60kg category and Ovidio will compete in the 55kg category.
“Our athletes will leave for Thailand on april 22 to compete in the Shout East Asian Karate Federation Championship competition which will take place from 24 to 26 april this year,” Araujo told Tatoli, in Dili on monday.
In order to be able to take part in the competition, the FKTL asked the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture for financial support to help the two athletes during their stay in Thailand.
“To date, we haven’t received any financial support from the government to prepare the athletes to compete in this regional competition,” he added.
Araújo said that the plane ticket of one of the athletes was bought with the support of the National Olympic Committee of Timor-Leste (CONTL), while that of the other athletes was supported by the FKTL.
