DILI, 10 july 2024 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC), Bendito dos Santos Freitas, accompanied the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, to officially open the diplomatic mission of Timor-Leste in the Republic of Angola.
At the opening ceremony, the Government of Angola represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António officially handed over the keys of the new building of the Embassy of Timor-Leste to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito Freitas.
Before the opening, Minister Freitas first held a bilateral meeting with his Angolan counterpart, Téte António, to discuss and exchange space reciprocity for the functioning of the Timorese embassy in Angola and vice versa.
Also from the Timor-Leste side, is currently preparing to submit a request to the Ministry of Justice to provide a suitable place to open the Angola Embassy in Dili.
Horta thanked the serenity and protection of the Government of Angola, which has allocated property and buildings to open Timor-Leste’s Embassies in the country.
Therefore, the Head of State said, already in Timor-Leste also has a designated ambassador to Angola, so, when returning to Timor will take office to the diplomat to be able to carry out mission in Angola.
Minister António emphasized that Angola has handed over this space to the Government of Timor-Leste to open their embassy, because the Government of Timor-Leste has also offered facilities to establish the Angolan embassy in Dili, simultaneously.
The Head of Angolan Diplomacy expressed the thought of the founder and Great Leader of Angola, the late António Agostinho Neto that, what counts with them is not geographical distance, but ideology, so it must consolidate friendship and solidarity between the people of the two countries.
