DILI, 21 october 2024 (TATOLI) – Today, the National Parliament began a cycle of public hearings promoted by the Permanent Specialized Committees, dedicated to examining the General State Budget (GSB) Bill for the financial year 2025.
The hearings, which will last until october 25, will be attended by members of the Government, the Presidency of the Republic and leaders of the Public Administration, to discuss and clarify the sectoral budgets for next year.
The 2025 State Budget Bill, with a total of US$2.6 billion, is divided into US$2.07 billion for the Central Administration, US$62 million for the Special Administrative Region of Oe-Cusse Ambeno (RAEOA) and US$482 million for Social Security, including the Social Security Reserve Fund.
On october 16 and 17, the government took part in the Budgetary Panorama for 2025 Seminar, organized by the National Parliament’s Committee C, which deals with public finance issues. This seminar served as a platform for the presentation of the guidelines and main priorities of the GSB 2025, laying the foundations for the public hearings that are now taking place.
The plenary sessions to discuss the 2025 State Budget Bill will begin with the general discussion and vote, scheduled for november 6 to 8. From november 11 onwards, the special discussion and vote will take place, with the final overall vote scheduled for november 25. The final draft of the document will then be submitted to the President of the Republic by november 27, 2024.
The 2025 State Budget continues the strategy of implementing the priorities set out in the Government Program, under the slogan “Investment in strategic infrastructures, strengthening the economy and improving the well-being of citizens”. The Proposal is formulated on the basis of the Strategic Objectives of the IX Constitutional Government, with a view to promoting the socio-economic development of the Nation through targeted investments in strategic infrastructures, economic strengthening and initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of citizens. The GSB 2025 aims to promote economic development and improve the living conditions of the Timorese population, through a clear strategy focused on sustainable economic growth, improving public services and ensuring that the benefits of development reach all citizens.
