Prime Minister Gusmão launches Comoro Substation and Transmission Line Project

DILI, 09 january 2025 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, on thursday, launch the Comoro Substation and 150kV Transmission Line Project in Dili.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held in Fomento, Dili, with the aim of reinforcing the electricity supply to the population.  

The project was initiated by the Ministry of Public Works and Electricity of Timor-Leste (EDTL), with the support of the Chinese government.

The 15-month long project will be implemented by the Chinese company TBEA International Engineering and will cost around US$25 million.

Prime Minister Gusão said that Transmission Substation Infrastructure Technologies would support the improvement of the efficiency and reliability of the electricity grid, which is crucial for business and industry activity in the country.

Gusmão said that the government plans to build the same infrastructure in Aileu, in order to ensure the supply of electricity to the entire population of the country.

Minister for Public Works, Samuel Marçal, also highlighted the need to build another substation to guarantee the supply of electricity to the population of Dili and recalled that the Camea substation only distributes electricity to the municipalities of Aileu and Ermera.

China’s Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Wang Wenli, said that the Chinese government is committed to supporting the government and Timorese people, saying that electricity is a critical factor for the country’s economic development because it is a key factor for many economic activities.
