President Ramos-Horta Receives Credentials Of New Ambassador Of Greece To Timor-Leste
DILI, 16 September 2025 (TATOLI) – President and Nobel Peace Laureate, Jose Ramos-Horta, received the letter of Credence from Christodoulos Margaritis, as the new Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to Timor-Leste, in a ceremony held at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.
The diplomatic relations between Timor-Leste and Greece were officially established on April 4, 2003, through a joint communiqué signed at the United Nations in New York. While current engagement is primarily conducted through multilateral forums like the UN and EU, bilateral relations are positive and hold promising potential for future growth.
Timor-Leste looks forward to exploring concrete cooperation with Greece in key areas of mutual interest, such as maritime and shipping, energy, and tourism, aiming to benefit from Greece’s advanced expertise.
Ambassador Christodoulos Margaritis is a seasoned diplomat with over 25 years of service. A specialist in international and European law, Ambassador Margaritis brings a wealth of experience from key postings across the globe, including serving as Consul General in Hong Kong, Special Envoy to Libya, and Deputy Head of Mission in both Kazakhstan and Canada.
He is fluent in Greek, German, English, and French. Ambassador Margaritis is concurrently the Ambassador of Greece to the Republic of Singapore and the Sultanate of Brunei (non-resident).
President Ramos-Horta stated, “We are confident that under your representation, we can build a more robust partnership, exploring the great potential that exists between our nations, particularly in the maritime sector, which is vital for both our countries.”
President Ramos-Horta expressed his confidence that the new Ambassador’s extensive experience would significantly contribute to deepening the bilateral relationship between Timor-Leste and Greek.
