DILI, 22 November 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, represented by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Miguel Marques Gonçalves Manetelu, attended the Thirty-First ASEAN Transport Ministers’ Meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, met with Minister Miguel Marques Gonçalves Manetelu to extend congratulations on Timor-Leste’s accession as the 11th Member of ASEAN. He also noted with appreciation Timor-Leste’s forthcoming submission of the Instruments of Accession to key ASEAN air transport agreements.
Dr. Kao Kim Hourn informed the meeting that the new ASEAN Transport Sectoral Plan (ATSP) 2026–2030 will guide ASEAN’s efforts to build a sustainable, resilient, and seamlessly connected region. This plan will support the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and contribute to the realization of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
He further emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among ASEAN Member States and Dialogue Partners to ensure that transport remains a key driver of regional integration and sustainable growth.
The Secretary-General reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to supporting Timor-Leste’s integration into the ASEAN Single Aviation Market and assisting its future participation in ASEAN–Dialogue Partner Air Services Agreements, thereby strengthening its regional and international connectivity.
The Thirty-First ASEAN Transport Ministers’ Meeting was held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, with a total of 187 delegates in attendance. Participants included ministers from ASEAN Member States, dialogue partners, the ASEAN Secretary-General, and senior officials.
