DILI, 24 november 2020 (TATOLI)– Timor-Leste Disability Association (TLDA) recommends that the Government affirm the United Nation Convention (UN) to the right of people with disabilities.
The Official for Advocacy of ADTL, Verónica Tilman said their essential recommendation is for the right of people with disabilities since most of them have encountered violent discrimination, “We think it is essential for the Government to ratify the convention in 2021,” Veronica Tilman said at the meeting hall (FONGTIL), Caicoli Dili.
In her view, the ratification of the convention is vital as a basis for strengthening existing laws ensured to citizens with disabilities.
Also, this organisation has asked the government to establish an integrated centre for mental health in Timor-Leste, to be able to provide adequate facilities and services.
“There is a place for mental health care that has been set up in Laclubar (Manatuto), but it does not have enough since it is only able to accommodate ten people. Sometimes those who are receiving the treatment have returned because their families are not taking care of them; thus, we need a specific place for them to have proper treatment, “ she said.
TLAD requested that the Ministry of Education organise the equivalence exam since people with disabilities have made their request for certificates from his junior high school.
