Liturgical celebration to be resumed under covid-19 restriction

DILI, January 19, 2021 (TATOLI) – Metropolitan Archbishop of Dili, Dom Virgílio do Carmo da Silva, announced to the public that, the liturgical celebrations will be resume to normal in regards to the health measure issued by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to Archbishop Dom Virgilio do Carmo the liturgical celebrations in Maliana will remain suspend until the end of state of emergency since Maliana is located near to the border.

“The Church decided to resume liturgical activities following the decision from the Council of Minister on january 15, highligted by the President for the Council of Minister, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães regarding the new emergency measure to normalize all the religious activities and the cultural activities,” Dom Virgilio do Carmo said over the press release access by TATOLI.

With regards to the issue, Dom Carmo acknowledge the decision of the Maliana Achbishop Dom Norberto Amaral to continue suspends the liturgical celebration until the end of the ninth state of emergency imposed by the State due to the rise of the number of covid-19 infections in neighboring Indonesia, particularly in Atambua.

“After contacting Dom Norberto do Amaral, it was then suggested that the Archdiocese of Dili continue to celebrate religious events, as it is far from the border area,” he said.

Despite the liturgical ceremony will return to normal, but Dom Carmo continue to request to the religious to comply with the measure implemented by the Ministry of Health.

Dom Carmo also said despite of resuming the liturgical ceremony the church is yet to authorize the celebrations of the mass of the patron feast, baptism celebration, wedding celebration as well as the processions.
