Australia provides humanitarian assistance to vulnerable families and people with disabilities

DILI, 11 may 2021 (TATOLI)— Australia’s Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Peter Robert handed over humanitarian support to the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MSSI), to help the vulnerable group and the group of disabilities. 

The Vice Prime Minister and the Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion, Armanda Berta dos Santos, said, this humanitarian assistance provided by the Government of Australia, will be distributed to the families affected by the natural disaster. 

“We will focus to distribute these supports to the vulnerable people and the people with disabilities including the pregnant woman and children who impacted by the floods,” Minister Santos said. 

Australia’s Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Peter Roberts, said, The Australian Government supplies this material to Timor-Leste to help the families affected by the disaster. 

“Today these materials coming from Australia, through the cooperation between Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MSSI), Ministry of State Administration (MSA), The Secretariat of State for Civil Protection (SEPS) and other non-governmental organization to support those who under the difficult situation,” he said. 

Mr. Robert is delighted to work with Timor-Leste as a neighboring country, family, and the partner, Timor-Leste had supported Australia at the time the country encountered the same situation. 

Ambassador Robert said, that, the support Australia provided to Timor-Leste during the flood’s disaster is $8.5 million, adding that, this is different from the Australian contribution for the Timor-Leste development for every year, which is $100 million.  

The humanitarian supports consist of 80 boxes of hygiene kidstools kits 80 boxes, kitchen kids 80 boxes, blankets thing 400 boxes, mosquito net 240, face masks 68.400/377 and tarpaulin 80 pcs.
