DILI, 30 june 2021 (TATOLI)- Since the eighth constitutional government was formed, one of the programs that are able to employ 100.080 casual people is the basic food program.

Therefore the program can be evaluated to take the advantage and what is bad we can improve if this basic food program is continuing in the future.

Azevedo Lourenco da Costa Marcal from the Prime Minister ‘s cabinet chief explained that the basic food program is a program that must be evaluated, but the good ones we will maintain and the bad ones, we can improve it.

“Although this basic food is aimed at economic recovery amids of the COVID-19 pandemic, it also helps many companies, based on data there are 232 local companies involved in distributing basic food in the territory of Timor-Leste and they have employed 100.080 people casually in Timor-Leste,” said Marcal at Tower Fatuhada to Journalist of TATOLI News Agency on wednesday.

Marcal said this program is a rabbit project carried out by the government and will be evaluated after this program is completed.

We hope this program will continue but the government must come up with a good mechanism.

We want that with this basic food program, our farmers are excited to plant a lot of local products because the government through the local companies has bought it.

We realize that although this basic food program still imports other local products from neighboring Indonesia. In the future, the government will prioritize local products from our farmers, to buy their local products such as green beans, taro, corn, rice and other local products, said Marcal.

Basic food makes many communities in rural areas produce baskets and many local companies buy their products and directly the farmers will make money improving their economy.

In the same place, entrepreneur Rui Castro appreciates government programs such as basic food but He recommends the government to provide subsidies to small companies with the aim that companies can mobilize our farmers to plant a lots of local products.

“The basic food program, which has been implemented since 2020, is based on data that there are 232 companies involved and have employed 100,080 people in national territory, it’s a good program and must be improved,” said Castro.

However, this program was carried out by the government to local companies but it was very difficult for companies to find enough local products in the market because of that they imported more local products from Indonesia because the supply of local products in the market was not enough.

In this opportunity Castro wanted to recommend to all local companies if the government paid, the better spend that money to open some business with the to diversify the economy of Timor-Leste and also can recruit many workers of Timor-Leste in the future, said Castro.
