COVID-19 update: TL records four more deaths, 307 infections

DILI, 26 august 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, reports four more deaths, 307 new cases, 152 recoveries, and the active cases were 4.203.

Of the new cases, 243 were detected in Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including 30 in Baucau, eight each in RAEOA and Viqueque, seven in Ermera, four in Manatuto, three in Bobonaro, two in each in Aileu, and Lautem.

The spokesperson of SIJK, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said 34.8 percent of today’s cases were symptomatic.

He said of today’s cases, 253 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including 41 cases under 20 and 13 elderly persons over 60. These new cases are made up of 154 men and 153 women.

Araujo informed that 66 Covid-19 cases had been admitted to Vera Cruz Isolation Center for intensive treatment, with 24 people in critical condition, five of whom required ventilation.

In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 814 PCR tests, including 34 sentinel surveillance tests, 279 through contact tracing, 171 via random screening, 263 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, 64 for the international travel authorization, and three in quarantines.

Today, SIJK registered four more deaths in Timor-Leste.

The first deceased was a woman in his 60s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 24 and admitted to the Vera Cruz Isolation Center on the same day. She had underlying conditions and passed away today at around 03.30. am local time.

Another deceased was a man in his 60s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 23 and admitted to the Lahane Hospital (HNGV) on the same day. He passed away today at around 04.30. am local time.

The third deceased was a man in his late 60s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 26 and admitted to the Guido Valadare National Hospital (HNGV) on the same day. He had one underlying condition and passed away today at around 02.00. am local time.

The fourth deceased was a man in his 20s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 25, in Viqueque municipality and passed away on the way to Vera Cruz Isolation Center, at around 10.45 am local time.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 23.5 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 58.1, Covalima 29.7, Baucau 23.2, Manufahi 15.3, Ainaro 11.8, Manatuto 9.5, and RAEOA 5.8.

The SIJK kept calling on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus as the SIJK’s records showed cases are again mounted in Dili, Ermera, and several municipalities.

Health authorities had warned that Delta variants have already spread in the communities, calling on citizens over 18 to get vaccinated: “Vaccination is the only way to combat the Covid-19.”

There has been a total of 15.603 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 11.344 recoveries, active cases were 4.203 and 56 deaths, according to SIJK’s data.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 50.4 percent had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 24.9 percent have also received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
