DILI, 23 october 2021 (TATOLI)– The Ministry of Health (MoH) through the National Institute of Health (INS) has concluded Trainers of Trainers (TOT) for 11 doctors and midwives to become the facilitators of Emergency Obstetric and New Born Care (EmNOC) in the future.
“This training is a continuation of the EmNoC training that was carried out in 2018 at the Guido Valadares National Hospital, and in 2021 INS selected 11 midwives and General Doctors to take a part in the TOT to become the EmNOC trainers in the future,” Specialist Obstetricians, Jose Antonio Gusmao told TATOLI in the INS ” office in Kampung Baru, Dili on Friday.
Doctor Gusmao added that the training aims to train midwives and Doctors to provide the service to pregnant women to anticipate maternal and infant mortality.
He explained that since the EmNOC program was implemented in 2019 in the referral hospitals the number of maternity and infant mortality in municipalities has decreased.
“Following the progress from this training, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is committed to supporting this program through a co-facilitator to be continued in Timor-Leste,” said Doctor Gusmao.
Doctor Gusmao hopes that the 11 medical staff who have completed their training in TOT from INS will help other medical personnel that has not been receiving this training, across 12 municipalities including RAEOA.
At the same place General Doctor, Ivonia Januario da Costa from Baucau Hospital appreciates the INS for allowing take part in the TOT of EmNoC and promised to re-facilitate the other medical staff in Bacau municipality to ensure the safety of mothers and babies.
Meanwhile, Midwife Juanina Belo Ximenes from the Formosa II Health Center, Dili said was very proud to participate in the TOT of EmNOC which was organized by INS and facilitated by UNFPA in Timor – Leste.
“I promise to share EmNOC’s knowledge to other medical professionals at Formosa II Health Center, Dili to increase their knowledge regarding EmNOC to provide the effective service for the pregnant mothers.
The TOT of EmNoC was held at INS’s office on October 11 and ended on October 22 and it is facilitated by UNFPA in Timor – Leste.
