DILI, 22 april 2022 (TATOLI)– Development partners comprising the United Nations Development Program (UNDP),the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) together with the Ministry of Tourism, Trade, and Industry (MTCI) will implement youth employment entrepreneurship skills project (YEES) in June 2022.
“(YEES) project will help improve the entrepreneurial skills of youth employment in Timor-Leste. This project will involve young Timorese who have experience working as seasonal workers in Australia, the Pacific Labor Scheme (PLS) and workers working in South Korea in various sectors,” MTCI Deputy Minister Domingos Lopes Antunes told TATOLI at his office, FOMENTO, this Thursday.
According to the Antunes, the YEES project will help develop youth skills through internships: “workers will participate in internships in various sectors such as Agriculture, Fisheries, Industry, culinary, bakery, tourism, energy, Health, Education, and others,”
“After achieving more skill development. They can engage in innovative business plans and soft credit,” said Antunes.
It is estimated that the project will benefit approximately 23,110 young people across the country, while also offering direct benefits to 1500 family members and creating jobs for around 1000 Timorese youth.
“The output of this project will have an impact on the economy of every family,”
So far the project will be funded between KOICA and UNDP, of which KOICA will provide 6,209,199.00 million USD and co-financing donors from UNDP in the amount of 490,000 thousand over six years of implementation.
