DILI, 06 de june de 2022 (TATOLI)—Prime Minister (PM) Taur Matan Ruak, held his first online meeting with Australia’s new Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese on Sunday (6/5/2022).

A statement issued on Monday by the office of Prime Minister said at the meeting the two leaders had focused their discussions on cooperation between the two countries.

“On behalf of the people of Timor-Leste and myself, I congratulate Anthony Albanese for being elected as the new Prime Minister of Australia. The TL government is committed to continuing to strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation with Australia,” said PM Taur Matan Ruak.

During the meeting, PM Taur also thanked Australia for the support given to Timor-Leste in various sectors and in particular in the Fiber Optic project and the expansion of President Nicolau Lobato International Airport.

PM Taur regards Australia as a good partner and friend who has accompanied TL since the second world war, from 1999, 2006 to 2020-2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic and natural disasters that occurred on 4 April 2021.

In turn, the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, thanked PM Taur Matan Ruak for, a congratulatory message, saying looking forward to strengthening the cooperation with Timor-Leste.

“The Australian Government remains committed to continuing its cooperation to support Timor-Leste in the sectors of climate change, labor mobility, regional security, e-government, and the economy in Timor-Leste,” said PM Albanes.

During the meeting, PM Taur also promised to visit Australia to discuss the cooperation, before ending his mission in 2023.
