DILI, 22 june 2022 (TATOLI) – Indonesian Telin Group revealed its plan to cooperate with the government to work on promoting Timor-Leste’s organic coffee overseas.
The CEO of the Telin Group, Budi Satria Dharma Purba said that Telin Group through its global office in 10 countries will help to promote Timor-Leste’s organic coffee.
“Telin Group will support government programs, especially with the promotion of Timorese coffee abroad. We will promote the original product from Timor-Leste in our global office across the globe and we have space for that. We have our global office established in 10 countries, including Taiwan, Hongkong, Singapore, Myanmar, USA, etc,” he said.
“I just want to say that we are committed to working with the government of Timor-Leste on the promotion of Timor-Leste’s coffee overseas,” he reiterated.
Coffee has been Timor-Leste’s largest non-oil export for the past 150 years, but climate instability, deforestation, and price fluctuations are putting farmer livelihoods at risk. Coffee accounted for at least 50% of the total export value from Timor-Leste.
Earlier this month, the Asian Entrepreneur Legacy (TAEL Partners), a private equity firm based in Singapore has also expressed interest to support Timor-Leste to do the marketing work to bring Timor-Leste’s organic coffee to the world.
TAEL Partners promised to support Timor-Leste’s coffee growers to obtain better yields and improve livelihoods.
To increase the production of coffee in the country, the Government of Timor-Leste in its approved rectification budget had allocated US$6.4 million for the rejuvenation and rehabilitation of coffee plantations across six municipalities – Ermera, Aileu, Ainaro, Liquica, Manufahi, and Manatuto.
Telkomcel has operated in Timor-Leste for nearly a decade now, and currently, it hires around 300 staff of which 95% are talented young Timorese.
“About 95% of our staff members are Timorese people of which 50% are women,” Satria added.
He said Telkomcel not only hired the young talented Timorese people but also provided capacity building and training for employees with the focus on building knowledge and capacity around telecommunication and ICT.
Telkomcel has more than 300.000 clients and the number is expected to grow in the coming years.
