DILI, 02 july 2022 (TATOLI) – Seven Timorese female workers who identified with the initials BS, ECdR, L, P, M, A, and A are now on the way home after experiencing inhumane treatment for more than two months in Dubai.
Two of these Timorese workers have arrived in Indonesia and are now staying at the Timor-Leste’s Embassy in Jakarta. While the five others are still in Dubai’s Airport and waiting to catch their flight back to Timor-Leste.
“Two of our friends are now staying at our embassy in Jakarta. And five of us are at Dubai Airport and waiting to catch our flight to Jakarta. Probably, next week, we will arrive in Dili, BS told TATOLI via WhatsApp, on friday.
The five Timorese workers have been set to leave Dubai at 10 pm local time and fly to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.
The return of these Timorese workers was arranged by the Government of Timor-Leste in cooperation with its United Arab Emirates counterpart.
The Return Flight Tickets for these Timorese workers were purchased by the companies in Dubai where they have worked for more than two months.
“We are happy because the boss of the company let us return home. I think we have suffered enough. We will immediately report the cruel experiences that we have been through in Dubai to Timorese National Police (PNTL when we arrive in Dili,” BS said.
They thanked the government of Timor-Leste for the efforts to bring them back home to see their families and loved ones.
“We would like to thank also Timor-Leste’s media for spreading our situation to the public,” he said.
These seven Timorese workers left the country for Dubai on may 19 this year. Since their arrival in Dubai, they worked every day from 9 am to 9 pm and earn only 200 Dirham which equals US$54.
