DILI, 9 july 2022 (TATOLI)– The Secretary of State for the Environment (SSE) provided training for 50 Timorese on environmental protection and the role of youth in sustainable development.
Environmental Director, America Machado Fernandes said this activity is organized by SSE to share information on environmental protection.
“We organize this activity to share information on environmental protection to ensure they know about a clean and healthy environment,” Fernandes to Reporters on Friday.
He said, to protect the environment, everyone should have the habit of disposing of garbage or waste materials in its place, but to change people’s behavior and knowledge about a clean and healthy environment, more training is needed.
Former Secretary of State for professional training and employment (SEFOPE), Nivio Magalhães said that young people play a very important role in the country’s sustainable development.
“The young generation must become transformation actors and become agents of change which means they should have the ability to engage in various activities in environmental, tourism, agriculture, education, trade, Health and others that contribute to sustainability,” He said.
Magalhães also encourages young people to share with other people what they learn from schools and implemented it in their everyday life.
“The knowledge they learn must be implemented in their daily lives, they must share information about environmental issues with others,”
So far, SSE has established more than 10 environmental youth groups to take full responsibility for protecting the environment at this time they are also building Love and Peace Parks around the coastal areas and even on the hillsides.
In addition, SSE also preserves the green environment through the Green School activity, ‘Eskola Verde’.
