DILI 11 july 2022 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste welcomes the Ambassador of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Rui Macieira with his delegation in Dili to further observe Timor-Leste readiness to join WTO.
The Head of the WTO Delegation arrived at Nicolau Lobato International Airpot at exactly 12.00 PM with the Indonesia City Link flight and was received by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs and Coordination (MECAE), Joaquim Amaral.
According to a statement released today, said, the delegates will hold a meeting with the President of the Republic, the National Parliament, and the Prime Minister as the leader of the Government.
While on 12 July 2022, will be held a High-Level Conference on Timor-Leste’s Accession to the WTO and ASEAN members and the following day, the delegation will have a meeting with the Private Sector, and Community Institutions, Media Associations, and Development Partners regarding TL’s accession to the WTO.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is an international organization that oversees efforts to liberalize trade.
This organization provides basic rules for international trade, becomes a forum for negotiating concessions and trade commitments for its members, and helps its members resolve trade disputes through legally binding mechanisms.
This visit itself became a historic moment for TL after restoring its independence on May 20, 2002.
It is known that this organization was founded on January 1, 1995, to reduce trade barriers, and is expected to promote economic development and improve people’s living standards.
