Six Timorese pass scholarships test to study Airport Operation and Airport Fire and Rescue Services

DILI, 17 august 2022 (TATOLI) – Six young Timorese passed the scholarship test to undertake polytechnic courses, namely Airport Operation and Airport Fire and Rescue Services at the Indonesian Aviation Polytechnic of Surabaya (Poltekbang Surabaya).

“According to the list given by the Poltekbang team, six young Timorese successfully passed the whole testing process to undertake polytechnic courses, including Airport Operation and Airport Fire and Rescue Services at Poltekbang Surabaya. The six scholarship recipients were made up of 3 men and 3 women,” the President of the Air Navigation Administration Timor-Leste (ANA-TL), Jose Trindade da Cruz Pinto told TATOLI at his office, at Dili Airport, today.

The official result of the scholarship was signed by the Executive Director of the Human Capital Development Fund (FDCH), Cristovão dos Reis, President of the Air Navigation Administration Timor-Leste (ANA-TL), Jose Trindade da Cruz Pinto, and the Head of Delegation Team of Poltekbang Surabaya, Hari Fitrianto.

Based on the selection criteria set by the Poltekbang Surabaya Team, the basic process for evaluating applicants and awarding scholarships is as follows: Documents Checklist, Written and Interview Test, Medical Examination, Physical Test, and Scholarships Contract.

“The six scholarship recipients will have to sign a scholarship contract with ANA-TL. So that after returning from their studies, they must work at least more than two years for the Dili International Airport,” Pinto said.

He stressed that studying Airport Operation and Airport Fire and Rescue Services is vital to improving Airport Services and Airport Security: “After concluding their studies at Poltekbang Surabaya, they will apply their knowledge and skills to enhance our Airport Services.”

“I would like to encourage these young fellas to use the opportunities wisely to learn and improve themselves during their time studying at Poltekbang Surabaya,” said Pinto.

ANA-TL and FDCH have planned to offer the same scholarships to 10 young Timorese people, next year: “I would like to congratulate these six young fellas, but I also want to motivate others who wouldn’t pass this time to try again next year.”

Meanwhile, the six recipients of the first intake of the same scholarship will be graduating on august 19, this year.

The Vice Coordinator of the Aviation Polytechnic of Surabaya, Hari Fitrianto thanked ANA-TL and FDCH for choosing the Aviation Polytechnic of Surabaya as a partner to contribute to the Timor-Leste’s human resource development, especially in the aviation-related areas.

“We hope this cooperation will continue for many years to come to provide more opportunities for young Timorese to pursue their education and career in the aviation-related areas,” he said.

In 2022, FDCH allocated around 31.000 for the proposed human resource development program of ANA-TL. While the Government of Timor-Leste allocated around US$12 million of the 2022 General State Budget for FDCH.
