DILI, 22 august 2022 (TATOLI) – The Association of Stop! Ba ita (ACbit) has identified 163 women, victims of human rights violations, in Ainaro, Baucau, Covalima, Dili, and Viqueque in the last three years.
The study conducted by ACbit “Research of Participatory Action” which took place between 2020 and 2022 identified several female victims, particularly in cases of sexual, physical, and psychological violence. 43 cases were identified in Ainaro, 35 in Baucau, 23 in Covalima, 26 in Dili and 36 in Viqueque.
“These victims did not take care of their health. They live without conditions and have physical and mental problems, as a result of the violence they have endured for several years”, said ACbit Director, Maria Manuela Leong Pereira, at the launching of the research, in Vila Verde.
Therefore, Perreira asked the Government to assist the victims: “ACbit will provide some recommendations to the Government and cooperate with local authorities”.
In this regard, the representative of the Civil Society Support Service and Social Audit, José da Silva said that his office supported ACbit with two thousand US dollars for association activities, especially for providing financial management and savings courses for victims.
So far, The study was funded by the Catholic Organization MISERIOR, of Germany, with US$65,000 over three years.
