DILI, 12 September 2022 ( TATOLI)– Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Juliao da Silva, informed, that the British Ambassador in Indonesia and non-resident Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Moazzam Malik will visit Timor – Leste in November 2022 to discuss the documents required to access the United Kingdom (UK).
“I have met with the British Ambassador, Moazzam Malik in Jakarta and we both discussed Timorese citizens who wish to work in the United Kingdom. During the meeting, Ambassador Malik agreed to visit Timor – Leste in November to discuss the document require with the Government of Timor – Leste,” The Vice Minister, MoFAC, Juliao da Silva told reporters at the Nicolao Lobato Airport, Comoro, Dili on Monday.
Vice Minister, da Silva added that Timor-Leste passport holders may be permitted to work in the United Kingdom (UK) because the UK has separated from the European Union, however, the citizens who wish to work there must fulfill the new British law.
“Under the new British law, citizens wishing to work in the UK must possess skills and have a professional training certificate recognized by the British Government, in addition, we will also try to maximize this opportunity by conducting the bilateral meeting cooperation and if the Timor-Leste passport can be used to work in the UK, it will be good for Timor-Leste, so many Timorese people will work in the UK directly without going through Portugal,” he said.
