DILI, 01 october 2022 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste Coffee Association (ACTL) promoted Timor-Leste’s Unique Coffee known as Timor Hybrid at the 2022 Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE), in Australia.

With the support of the Market Development Facility (MDF) and The Asia Foundation (TAF), ACTL sent a team made up of the Letefoho Specialty Coffee Roaster, Orijim Timor, Aroma Timor, and Timor Heyday Ar Coffee to promote Timor Hybrid in Melbourne, Australia.

The Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Australia, Inês Almeida was also present at the 2022 MICE, where Timor-Leste was proudly presenting and promoting its organic coffee to the world.

Timor hybrid coffee is the result of a spontaneous interspecific cross between Coffea arabica (arabica coffee) and C. canephora (robusta coffee).

Ambassador Inês said she understands that currently coffee plantations in the world, be it in South America, Africa, or Asia, are under various names such as Catimor, Sarchimor, Ruiru 11, Costa Rica 95, and many more: “Timor Hybrid saves the world’s coffee.”

MICE itself admits that Timor-Leste has earned a reputation as an exporter of high-quality coffee, with Timor Hybrid being a favorite among baristas and coffee lovers.

“At MICE 2022, you will get the chance to experience the taste of Timor’s specialty coffee; harvested, roasted, and brewed by Timorese coffee farmers,” says MICE’s website.

In addition, the Australian Embassy said Timor-Leste has a proud history of coffee, adding that Timorese coffee growers have grown and harvested coffee for centuries.

The famous Hybrido de Timor coffee tree is used to replenish plantations around the world. Now a new generation of Timorese coffee entrepreneurs is representing Timor-Leste coffee around the world.

The Australian Government Market Development Facility is proud to support the Timor-Leste stand and visit the 5 Timor-Leste baristas at this year’s MICE.

MICE is an annual event known throughout Asia and the Pacific as the region’s largest and most exciting coffee specialty event. More than 11.000 attendees would visit the 2022 MICE.
