DILI, 29 november 2022 (TATOLI)- Executive Director for Secretariat of National Employment Strategy, Jenifer Antonio Costa Pui urges the Government to create more job opportunities for young Timorese.

Pio’s statement follows the significant increase in the unemployment rates in Timor-Leste.

“Every year Timor-Leste recorded over 5,000 graduates from universities while 20,000 are high school graduates and also Timor-Leste recorded around 1,300 training centers, so the unemployment rate increases every year,”

According to Pio, the cause of the significant raised in the number of unemployment in Timor-Leste was due to lack of job opportunities and lack of skills, therefore he said:” Government should create more job opportunities to reduce the rate of unemployment” Pui told Tatoli in his office, Caicoli today.

Since there are fewer job opportunities in this country, Pui encourages young Timorese to participate in the course offered by all training centers across the country, to develop their skills and find opportunities for jobs:

“The government has established training centers across the country, Sefope also has been working very hard to send Timorese workers to work in Australia and South Korea, therefore, these training centers are established to support Timorese people to acquire more skills to respond to market demand,”

The issue concerned is also related to the number of unemployed recorded by SoSVTE in 2010 which was 7.4% while in 2013, it raised to 11%.

For infant workers, in 2016, SoSVTE recorded 10.4% of infant workers and over 23.000 unemployed people.

“Currently the SoNES is surveying to collect the number of unemployment in Timor-Leste while according to plan, the SONES will have the official publication on december 22, 2022,” he said.
