Newly appointed Country Director of WFP presents credentials to Foreign Affairs Minister

DILI, 20 december 2022- The newly appointed Representative and Country Director of the World Food Program, Alba Cecilia Garzon Olivarez presented her letter of credence to Timor-Leste’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Adaljiza Magno in a meeting held at the Magno’s office, in Dili, on Friday (16/12). 

Minister Magno had an introductory meeting and received a Credential letter from the new Representative and Country Director of the World Food Program in Timor- Leste, Alba Cecilia Garzon Olivarez. 

Magno welcomed Olivarez and congratulated her on the appointment to replace her predecessor Dagen Liu.

Minister Magno highlighted the government’s investment in nutrition, commitment, and priorities to overcoming challenges in improving food security and reducing malnutrition together with the World Food Program and other development partners. 

Garzon reaffirmed the WFP’s strong commitment to improving food security, and health, building resilience, and ending all forms of malnutrition in Timor-Leste by adjusting with the government priorities, maximizing program efficiency and effectiveness as well as assisting the government to strengthen its capacities on program implementation.

At the meeting, Olivarez also highlighted the presentation of the new Country Strategic Plan (CSP) 2023 to 2025, which will be focusing more on supporting food security and nutrition. 

Olivarez replace the previous WFP’s Country Director, Dagen Liu who left Timor-Leste on July 2022, after serving a four-year mission in the country.
