DILI, 11 janaury 2023 (TATOLI) – The Government of South Korea supports Timor-Leste to construct the Dili Municipal Hospital, which will help reduce overcrowding at the National Hospital Guido Valadares (HNGV).

“We plan to build the Dili Municipal Hospital. The Ministry of Justice has given us a piece of land in Comoro to build the hospital,” Health Minister Odete Maria Freitas Belo told reporters, at the Government Palace in Dili, today.

Minister Belo said that the South Korean Government would provide funds for the construction of the hospital: “I still don’t know the exact amount of money, but they have confirmed to us about the fund which would be given for the construction of the hospital.”

Besides the Díli municipal hospital, there are three other municipal hospitals that would be built in Ermera, Viqueque, and Lautem.

“We will discuss this in detail with the administrators of the authorities of the three municipalities to decide the land for the construction of the hospitals,” Belo added.

Last year, the Executive Director of Guido Valadares, National Hospital (HNGV), Alito Soares informed that the national hospital was running out of space to accumulate new patients for hospitalization.

Minister Belo, therefore, said that the construction of the Dili Municipal Hospital would help to avoid overcrowding of patients visiting the national hospital.
