DILI, 16 january 2023 ( TATOLI) – Timor-Leste Ministry of Education has registered over 2003 retired teachers on the Ministry of Education’s pension list to leave teaching in 2023.
Speaking to Tatoli, Minister of Education, Armindo Maia said that currently, these teachers continue to teach while waiting for the mandatory law to be passed by the National Parliament.
“We have more than 2,003 retired teachers registered on the Ministry of Education list who are still teaching because currently the mandatory retirement law has not been issued by the Council of Ministers,” Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Armindo Maia told TATOLI in Balide Dili.
At the same time, Maia revealed that after the Council of Ministers passed the mandatory pension law, MoEYS would make a decree law to regulate the status of all retired teachers to pay attention to their rights in the future.
Maia also said that a total of 2,003 retired teachers included teachers who had entered retirement age, while some teachers wanted to retire before reaching retirement age due to some personal problems.
Meanwhile, Maia said, the Ministry of Education is also preparing new teachers to replace retired teachers.
“The Ministry of Education has prepared more than 1,000 volunteer teachers to replace old or retired teachers,”
The 2003 teachers included teachers from elementary, junior high, and high schools, across the country.
