DILI, 23 february 2023 (TATOLI) – United States for International Development (USAID), International Foundation for Election system (IFES), and National Election Commission (CNE) offered the capacity building on ‘communication strategy’ to 20 staff from CNE to prepare for the upcoming parliamentary election.
President of CNE, José Belo said CNE coordinates with IFS and is supported by USAID to provide capacity building on communication strategy for 20 CNE staff across the country aiming to enhance more knowledge on providing credible information for the media and public for the upcoming parliamentary election.
“I believe this program will help the staff to increase their knowledge and responsibility to be more effective during the election,’’ President of CNE, José Belo told Journalists at the CNE media center room, thursday
At the same place, IFES Senior advisers of Election, Alan Wall said this is a great opportunity for the staff from CNE and STAE to learn more strategies to provide proper service during the election.
“The subjects for the training will be focused on Providing strategic civic education for the voters, Strategy for crisis communication, Strategy to deal with the media, Strategy communication for media, Effective methods of countering disinformation, and Designing effective targeted civic and voter education messages,” he said.
The acting Mission Director of USAID, Rebecca Robinson said USAID is committed to supporting Timor Leste to provide credible information to the public on the upcoming election.
“USAID supported this capacity building to help CNE not to provide disinformation to the public during the election period. Timor-Leste is working on an effort to promote democracy, thus, this activity is one part of the strategy for providing credible information on the upcoming parliamentary election,”
The training will be conducted for two days, from 23 to 24 february.
