DILI, 06 march 2023 (TATOLI)- The Secretary of State for Training Vocational and Employment (SEFOPE), Alarico do Rosario said currently over 1200 Timorese overseas workers escaped from the Government system.

“Based on the data reported by Timor-Leste attaché in Australia and South Korea, over 1200 Timorese workers escaped from the working system, while the number including 500 workers recorded from Australia and 700 workers from South Korea,’’ Alarico do Rosario told reporters in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Pantai Kelapa, Dili.

Rosario explained the workers whose names were out of the system will not be responsible by the Government of Timor – Leste.

“We will not do anything because every country has its law therefore Timor – Leste has no right to intervene in their law but something that we do is to communicate with our attaché to send them back for working lawfully,’’ he said.

Rosario, on behalf of the Government of Timor – Leste, calls on the Timorese overseas workers to continue working with the existing legal system applied by Australia and South Korea to ensure sustainable work in the future.
