USA and CCI-TL support AWE offers capacity building to 45 young women entrepreneurs

DILI, 18 march 2023 (TATOLI)- United States of America (USA) and Chamber of Commerce Industry in Timor-Leste (CCITL) supported Academies for Women Entrepreneurship (AWE) by providing capacity building to 45 Timorese women to emerging young women entrepreneurs in Timor-Leste.

U.S Chargé d’Affaires, Tom Daley said the United States is committed to supporting Timorese women in taking their economic futures into their own hands to lead businesses that will change people’s lives for the better and expand economic prosperity for the Timorese people.

“This program enables budding entrepreneurs to develop their ideas and support each other in a safe space for personal growth,’’ U.S Chargé d’Affaires, Tom Daley said in his remarks at the closing ceremony at Fundasaun Oriente meeting room, Bairru Guerillos, this friday.

He added this program helps women to gain more knowledge raising ideas on business creation and developing ideas on business strategy.

With $45,000 in funding the United States supported CCI-TL to implement the second edition of the Academic for women entrepreneurs, including the establishment of a business.

“This is the second consecutive year that the United States has supported the Academy for women entrepreneurs program, which engaged economically vulnerable women, women with disability, and members of the LGBTQI+ community,”

So far, the first cohort of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs includes 30 young women entrepreneurs and concluded in early 2022.

The vice president of CCI-TL, Herguilina Alves said it is a great opportunity for Timorese women entrepreneurs to take two weeks of training to get ideas on business activities.

“The training is provided to help Timorese women entrepreneurs to develop a business plan and more scaling up skills for managing business activity,’’ She said

Alves added that about 45 also get the knowledge on how to link their products to the market and also how to write reports to record income and money out.

Thus, in the closing days, the U.S. is committed to providing competition to diversify their business and enhance women’s capacity of the women entrepreneurs engaging diversified their business.

The winners in the competition will be awarded some cash to develop their businesses.

The competition will be selected three women who can be the winner. Thus, the first winner will be awarded $4.000 and the second winner will be awarded $2.400 and the third winner will be awarded $.1.440.
