DILI, 13 april 2023 (TATOLI) – At the 67th UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York in March, South Sudan’s Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare (Minister, Aya Benjamin Libo Warille) co-hosted a side event with the International Women’s Peace Group (Chairwoman, Hyun Sook Yoon), an NGO of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
CSW is a functional committee under the U.N. Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and international and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from around the world gather every year to share policy cases to strengthen women’s capabilities and enhance their rights and interests and seek effective ways to implement gender equality policies.
The 67th CSW meeting was held under the theme of “Peace education in the digital age for innovation, technological change, and gender equality. Expanding empowerment in education of all women and girls.“
At the side event held on the 8th March, more than 300 women from various levels including ministers and UN ambassadors, attended the event under the theme of “Development of Peace Education in the Digital Age for Global Partnership and the Empowerment of All Women and Girls.”
Aya Benjamin Libo Warille, Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare said, “Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare of South Sudan is pleased to co-host a significant Side Event designed to discuss how South Sudan can develop peace education in the digital age of global partnerships for women and girls. For peace, women must actively participate in peace activities. In South Sudan, peace education should be supported not only at the community but also at the national level. The Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare in South Sudan seems to have a lot to cooperate with the IWPG.”
Hyun Sook Yoon, Chairwoman of IWPG said, “I am always thinking about SDGs No. 17 ‘Partnership’ and focusing on No. 4 ‘Peace Education’. I was able to focus on peace education because I knew that a woman who voluntarily realized the value of peace was actively developing her work while actively exercising the capabilities of ten people, so I was able to realize the value of peace.”
Meanwhile, on the 9th March, the IWPG and the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare of South Sudan agreed to support IWPG’s peace education and the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) through the MOA signing ceremony for mutual cooperation.
