WHO and MoE commit to continuing the project of ‘Say No to 5S’ in all schools in Timor- Leste

DILI, 08 august 2023 ( TATOLI)- The Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Arvind Mathur, and the Ministry of Education (MoE), Dulce de Jesus, discuss today the continuation of the ‘Say No to 5S’ Project which had been implemented in all school in Timor – Leste.

WHO Representative in Timor – Leste, Arvind Mathur, said the 5S start for Starvation, Soil-transmitted Helminthiasis, Skin disease, Smoking, and Sugary /Alcohol Drink, and the project is targeted at improving the nutrition of over 300,000 school going children across the country.

“Say No to 5S project is important for providing Primary Health Care (PHC) packages to primary and pre-secondary through skilled health staff, facilitating effective education on health and nutrition within the school system, coordinating the effort to improve school policies and establishing a certification system for school safety and a healthy school environment,” the Representative of WHO, Arvind Mathur, told reporters at the Ministry of Education, Vilaverde Dili on tuesday.

Mathur explained, WHO initiated the ” Say No to 5S Project,” as a collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) in 2022.

“The project was aimed at supporting MoE and the Ministry of Health (MoH)on School Health Nutrition, with funding from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The donor contribution to WHO is USD 3.69 million out of the total fund of 7.86 million,”

Thus WHO wishes to inform the implementation of the Say No to 5S Project and the new Minister of Education to continue implementing this project from 2022 to 2025.

At the same place the Minister of Education Dulce de Jesus, appreciated the initiative of WHO in implementing of Say No to 5S Project and will together with WHO and MoH in continuing this project.

” Say No to 5S project had implemented by the eight Constitutional Governmentl. This program is very crucial therefore the ninth Government of Constitutional will continue this program of Say no to 5S Project to be implemented in all schools in Timor – Leste to ensure effective education on health and nutrition system in Timor -Leste,” she concluded.
