DILI, 29 august 2023 ( TATOLI) – Academician of the National University of Timor Loro Sa’e ( UNTL), Antero Benedito urges the Government to accelerate the process for the construction National Library.
“The existence of the National Library is very crucial for students, academics, and the public to access all books in reading and writing as well as to conduct more in-depth research on what is learned to contribute to the development in Timor – -Leste,” said Benedito at Hotel Timor, Colmera Dili.
The existence of the national library, will offer opportunities for academics and book authors to keep their products in the national library and also offer opportunities for students and the public could access these books.
“Timor-Leste academics have produced many books, such as history books and other books, but there is no national library to keep all the books produced by them. Therefore, we ask the Government to accelerate the national library by facilitating the students to be more active in pursuing the science and knowledge to contribute to the nation and state’s development in the future,”
Previously, the eighth Constitutional Government through the State Secretariat for Arts and Culture (SSAC) in collaboration with the National Petroleum Authority and Mineral (ANPM) had laid the first stone to build a national library in Hudi-Laran Dili in 2022, but the national library has not been built until now.
Therefore the ninth constitutional government will continue the construction of this national library.
Secretary of State for Arts and Culture Jorge Soares Cristovao has said that the funding for the national library is $10 million and is still in the ANPM ‘s account thus the library will be built after ANPM is structured, it is hoped that the construction of the national library will be built in early of 2024.
