DILI, 18 march 2024 (TATOLI) – Vice Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Adérito Hugo da Costa has asked the National Parliament (PN) to schedule the election of the Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (CAC).
“On february 19, we presented a proposal to the National Parliament to appoint Rui Pereira dos Santos as Commissioner of the CAC. We hope that the parliamentary benches, especially the government and opposition benches, will reach a consensus so that the election can be scheduled,” he said in Dili.
In this regard, the President of the FRETILIN Bench, Aniceto Guterres, guaranteed that his bench agrees with holding the election of the new CAC commissioner.
According to law, the candidate proposed by the government must be analyzed and voted on by the Parliament. An absolute majority of the MPs must be present at the election, representing at least three-quarters of the MPs.
The election was supposed to be held in february, but it was postponed because the House Speaker, Maria Fernanda Lay, and 11 MPs went to Abu Dhabi to attend the signing ceremony of the country’s accession to the World Trade Organization.
