Timor-Leste congratulates PM Narendra Modi on winning historic third term

DILI, 06 june 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on winning a historic third term after his party and its allies bagged a victory in the 2024 Indian General Election.

“Warmest congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his resounding reelection for a third consecutive term,” President Horta said in a statement.

The Head of State said that Prime Minister Modi has presided over a dramatic transformation of India into a global economic power, dizzying digitalization of the nation, a formidable independent voice on the world stage.

“I had the pleasure of visiting India and attended the Gujarat Global Summit early this year during which time I had a warm work meeting with PM Modi, visited the Expo displaying India’s impressive industrial achievements, including aeronautics, defense, health, and modern medical equipment,” said Horta.

Horta said that Timor-Leste and India will soon open Embassies in their respective capitals.

With the plan to open the two countries’ embassies, it is certain that the two nations will continue to work together to strengthen Timor-Leste-Indian ties.

The formation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term took place on june 5, making him the only second leader after Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first Prime Minister, to return to power for a third consecutive term.
