DILI, 05 october 2024 (TATOLI) – The Peace Corps is proud to welcome 17 new Volunteers to Timor-Leste, for a total of 41 Volunteers currently serving in country.
These dedicated individuals will serve as English teacher trainers and community economic development (CED) workers, contributing to meeting the country’s educational and development needs.
“The Volunteers first undergo an intensive 10-week Pre-Service Training (PST), during which time they live with local host families and immerse themselves fully in Timor-Leste’s rich culture. During PST, they learn Tetum, build cross-cultural skills, and sharpen technical abilities to prepare them for their respective roles in education and community development at their permanent sites,” said in a statement.
After completing PST, the Volunteers will be placed in communities across Timor-Leste.
The teacher trainers will work with Timorese English teachers in pre-secondary and secondary schools, while the CED Volunteers will work alongside community members or counterparts in training centers, NGOs, or women’s groups to improve the generation of income or increase employability skills.
The Peace Corps remains committed to supporting Timor-Leste on its journey toward prosperity and development, fostering friendship and mutual understanding through volunteer service.
