DILI, 14 August 2025 (TATOLI) – Minister of Commerce and Industry Nino Pereira, accompanied by Elia de Jesus, Coordinator of the Partnership and Reform Office, visited Crape Myrtle Industry, Lda., located in Tibar, Likisá Municipality. The company specializes in the production of polyethylene (PE) poly pipes, a thermoplastic material known for its durability and adaptability.
The purpose of the visit was for Minister Pereira to observe firsthand the operations of the thermoplastic production industry, which has been active in Timor-Leste since 2023 and has created employment opportunities for many Timorese.
In an interview, Coordinator Elia de Jesus stated that the government remains committed to supporting industries that manufacture locally and contribute to national development.
“The government plays a key role in promoting domestically produced goods. Since we manufacture and brand these products ourselves, it’s essential that the government helps promote them so they can reach broader markets – especially those produced by local companies,” he said.
“This is the first poly pipe industry in Timor-Leste. Minister Pereira’s visit was an opportunity to directly observe its progress and the challenges it faces, so that solutions can be identified,” Elia de Jesus emphasized.
During the visit, company assistant Mariano dos Santos urged the government to support the industry, highlighting its contribution to youth employment and national development. He noted that the product is of high quality and has been tested at the UNTL Hera laboratory.
