Timor-Leste Government Sets $118 million budget for August

DILI, 07 august 2020 (TATOLI)– The Council of Ministers has approved the temporary allocation budget for August with the total amount of $118 million set out by Minister Fernando Hanjam.

“The Council of Ministers approved the deliberation related to the final version of the temporary budget for August 2020 with the total allocation of $118 million,” President for Council of Minister Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, said after the Council meeting at the Government Palace in Dili.

Finance Minister Sara Lobo Brites said during the implementation of State Emergency the Government has fewer activities due to this the real monthly spending around $56 to $65 million.

Following the trends of the months and use of the budget in the months before, after paying back loans, the funds will be broken up into four categories, Government Salaries, goods and services, Public transfers and capital development.

Finance Minister Sara Lobo Brites said due to the State Emergency, the Government has fewer activities to run and the real monthly spending around $56 to $65 million.

Timor Leste is still operating on a Duodecimal Budget system since January 1, 2020. This means that each month all government departments and public-funded institutions have to lodge a budget that covers their necessities, the budget which is submitted must not exceed one month, this complies with the general state budgets law no. 13/2016.
