DILI, 21 may 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste Ministry of Health (MoH), reveals 22.455 people have been receiving the first dose of the vaccine against covid1-19, until May 20.
”After the arrival of 20 thousand doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Australia, the MoH launched the second phase of vaccination campaigns on May 5, until today may 20, 22.455 people in Dili have already received the first dose of the vaccine,” Director-General of Health Service, Odete da Silva Viegas told the Journalists, at Tasi Tolu.
The number will not be including, Atauro, adding that, MoH will distribute the Vaccine to Atauro next week.
The administration of the second phase of vaccine gives priority to the vulnerable, population over 60 years old and to people with commorbidities however she said those who wish to access the vaccine, can proceed to any health facilities.
Ms. Viegas explained, with the arrival of the 20 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine yesterday, Ministry of Health will offer to 241 citizens in Dili across 37 villages have not been receiving the vaccine.
The team has been vaccinated people in 100 villages across Dili and will complete the vaccination to 141 villages before May 28.
Ms. Viegas asks the team to speed up the first dose of the vaccination process, to be followed by the second dose of vaccination from the COVAX Facility, which will be started in June 2021.
“Today we completed 20 doses of AstraZeneca Vaccine offer from Australian Government, and continue to do the vaccine with another 20 doses that just arrived yesterday. Our objective is to accelerate the process and the priority groups and those who are over 60 years old and those with complicated diseases,” She said.
Timor-Leste launched an anti-COVID-19 inoculation drive on April-7 after having received vaccines from the World Health Organization’s COVAX Facility.
In the second phase of the AstraZeneca Vaccination, the country is targeting to inoculate at least 80% more population out of its 1,338,954 population.
