IDLI, 12 june 2021 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Ministry of Health (MoH) had received a total of 294.800 vaccines.
The 294.800 vaccines were made up of 124.800 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine from the COVAX Facility, including the 24.000 doses supported by the New Zealand Government, 70,000 from the Australian Government, and 100.000 Sinovac vaccines given by the Chinese Government.
Of these 294.800 vaccines, 83.771 people in capital Dili had received at least one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine since the government and partners launched the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine campaign on April 7. The 83.771 represented 35 percent of all the eligible groups for vaccination in the country.
Of the 1.3 million Timorese population, 754, 864 people were eligible to receive the vaccines.
Speaking at the press conference at the Ministry of Social, Solidarity, and Inclusion (MSSI), on behalf of the Government of Timor-Leste, Dr. Danina Coelho, the Spokesperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Vaccine Deployment thanked the COVAX Facility and also the Governments of Australia, Bhutan, Canada, Colombia, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Monaco, New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Team Europe, United Kingdom, the United States of America and several other donors and institutions for their generous funding support to assist Timor-Leste with the COVID-19 vaccines.
Coelho said since the nation launched its first vaccination campaign on April 7, only a few people showed adverse reactions following the immunization.
In addition, the spokesperson of the Integrated Crisis Management Center (CIGC), Rui Maria de Araujo informed that those who have received their second shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine would move freely within the national territory after two weeks.
The Integrated Crisis Management Center (CIGC’s) today, registered 31 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, with 164 recoveries, and the active cases were 1.616.
