Peter Roberts introduces AUSMAT team to Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak

DILI, 16 september 2021 (TATOLI) – The Australian Ambassador to Timor Leste, Peter Roberts introduced the eight members of the Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT)to the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak at his residence in Farol, Dili.

The team was made up of two doctors, one paramedic, two nurses, a logistician, a physician, and an epidemiologist.

During the meeting, Ambassador Roberts and PM Taur Matan Ruak discussed joint efforts and work that needed to be done to combat the Covid-19 in the country.

Roberts said he was delighted to present the AUSMAT team to His Excellency Prime Minister.

“This emergency medical team is from Australia to work with the Timorese medical team at the Vera Cruz Isolation Center (VCIC) and the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV) to fight against the Covid-19,” Roberts told reporters after meeting Prime Minister Ruak, at his residence in Farol, Dili, on wednesday.

“I am happy to see that Australia and Timor-Leste are willing to work together during this difficult time,” said Roberts.

He said as one of Timor-Leste’s closest neighbors, Australia is happy to bring researchers, doctors, paramedics, nurses, logisticians, physicians, and epidemiologists to assist Timor-Leste during the fight against the Covid-19.

“Australia will stand firm to keep supporting Timor-Leste’s government with the Covid-19 vaccination campaign. Vaccination had helped many Timorese in capita Dili,” said Roberts.

“The fully vaccinated citizens won’t get severe infections like Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, therefore, we need to keep pushing the vaccination campaign in the country. Australia and UNICEF will continue to work together to support the nation’s vaccination campaign to protect families and the communities,” added Roberts.

The AUSMAT team arrived on september 8 and started working with the Timorese Medical Team of the Pillar 7 at the Vera Cruz Isolation Center (VCIC) and the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV) on september 9.
