DILI, 16 september 2021 (TATOLI) – The Vice-Minister and the Minister of Planning and Territory, José Maria dos Reis presented a legislative policy plan to define environmental and ecological protection zones in Timor-Leste.
“Identifying and defining the environmental and ecological protection zones is important as many of the sensitive areas are prone and exposure to the potentially harmful of the natural disaster,” the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães told reporters after the regular meeting of the Council of Ministers, at the Palace of the Government, in Dili, on wednesday.
Magalhães said the presentation of the legislative policy aims to create or define a special legal regime, concerning the regulation of the land-use alteration and transformation, including the incompatible and compatible land-use.
He said the proposed special legal regime was crucial to ensure the protection of the natural resources, aquifer recharge, and the care of sensitive ecosystems as well as preventing land degradation, floods, erosion, etc.
