DILI, 18 september 2021 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak called on the Timorese medical team to build a good collaboration with the Australian doctors, particularly the Australian Medical Assistance Teams (AUSMAT) at the Lahane Isolation Center.

Ruak made the comments during his visit to the Lahane Isolation Center to see the condition of the patients.

“Strengthening our cooperation with the AUSMAT team is needed to consolidate our joint efforts in the fight against the Covid-19 to save the Covid-19 patients,” Ruak told reporters after seeing the condition of the patients at Lahane Isolation Center, in Dili, on Saturday.

He said as a new country, Timor-Leste needs to build a good relationship with other entities like AUSMAT to get through any difficulties that are currently facing the country.

“It could be a medium or long-term partnership, so creating a good partnership with AUSMAT is important to have a capacity building and training for our medical and health workers,” said Ruak.

Ruak emphasized that to overcome any difficulties in the country is building partnerships with other entities: “Consolidating a force of the two parties is crucial to achieving a good result and success.”

As of Saturday, 16 patients had been admitted to Lahane Isolation Center for intensive treatment, consisting of 13 men and 3 women. Of the 16 patients, four are in critical condition, one of whom requires ventilation, while 11 patients are in moderate condition.

A total of 37 seven medical workers, including the AUSMAT team, are working at the Lahane Isolation Center to provide special treatment to Covid-19 patients.
