DILI, 23 september, 2021 (TATOLI)- Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has supported Timor-Leste in surveying the areas affected by April 4 floods.
JICA Representative to Timor-Leste, YOKOHORI Shinji said that the objective of the survey is to collect and analyze information necessary to formulate projects which are disaster-resistant for future cooperation.
He said the team will analyze and identify the Post Situation and Data Collection Survey for The Flood Countermeasures” to Timor-Leste since this month. After the severe flood damages happened in April 2021,
According to YOKOHORI Shinji, the survey will conduct in four areas: Comoro river retaining wall, Bemos water intake facility as well as the irrigation facility in Buluto and Maliana I
“The experts have conducted the first survey in the Comoro rivers and collecting temporary data conclusion on damages,” said.
The General manager of oversees Project Headquarters, Masatsugu KOMIYA said that the first survey indicated the risk in the population living close to the river or by the riverside.
“Timor- Leste needs to establish the land property laws to remove all population living next to the river,” he said.
He declares, The Japanese Government through JICA has planned to provide financial aid to support the rehabilitation process in the affected areas.
JICA has dispatched 14 Japanese experts to survey the Dili and other municipalities within a year starting from august 2021 to august 2022.
