DILI, 28 december 2021 (TATOLI) – According to the data of the Ministry of Health, 19.5 percent of the children between the ages of 12 to 17 had received at least one dose of the Pfizer vaccine against Covid-19, of which 15.7 had been fully vaccinated.
So far, more than 35.363 children aged 12 and 17 across the territory have received at least one dose of the Pfizer vaccine, equal to about 19.5 percent of all eligible children in the country, said in a statement.
The statement also revealed that more than 28.218 had been fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine, equal to 15.7 percent.
Two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine have proved more than 95% effective against infection, hospitalization, and death from Covid-19, according to a study conducted in Israel.
The Pfizer vaccination campaign was officially launched by the government of Timor-Leste together with UNICEF, and the US Chargé d’affaires, on october 27, 2021.
The government of Timor-Leste had planned to vaccinate more than 50.000 children aged 12 to 17 across schools in Timor-Leste.
Meanwhile, 67.6 percent of adult residents 18 and older are fully vaccinated, while 83.3 percent had received at least one dose of the Covid1-9 vaccine.
Covid-19 vaccination: Municipality Tracker
At least four municipalities have now fully vaccinated more than 70 percent of their adult residents. Four of these municipalities included Dili (80.1%), Viqueque (81.3%), Covalima (76.3%) and RAEAO (71.6%). However, the vaccination rate is low in Ermera and Bobonaro with 49.0% and 51.0% respectively.
So far, Timor-Leste had received a total of 1.213.279 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, consisting of 1.012.650 doses of AstraZeneca, 100.000 doses of SINOVAC (China), and 100.620 doses of Pfizer vaccines (USA).
Of the 1.012.650 AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines, 100.800 doses were given by COVAX Facility, 24.00 doses from New Zealand, 577.850 does were donated by the government of Australia, 142.000 doses from Portugal, and 168.000 doses were given by the Japanese government.
