DILI, July 24, 2023 ( TATOLI)- AN-ANUR Elementary School Coordinator, Muhammad Daud on behalf recommended the Government’s Ministry of State Administration (MSA) to increase the cost of the school feeding program.
“The government has an upstanding school feeding program but needs to increase the cost for each student in order to be able to buy enough nutritious food,” The Coordinator told TATOLI in his office in Kampung Alor Dili, Friday.
Daud explained that currently, the school meal fee for every student is 0.42 cents which is not enough to buy nutritious food for students.
AN-NUR is one of 90 schools in Dili that benefit from the Government’s school feeding program, and the budget allocated for the school feeding program at AN-NUR schools is $3.1, benefiting over 250 students.
“Therefore we recommend the government to increase the cost of school meals so they can buy enough food to improve children’s nutrition and attract students to actively participate in the learning process,” he said.
Meanwhile, Madalena Rebeiro, a parent who expressed her thoughts on school meals, said that to increase the appetite of school children, food must be prepared in a good and healthy way, moreover despite the food being simple but it must be tasty.
Therefore, She recommended the relevant ministries provide training to cooks who prepare school meals for students: “It is important to provide training to each chef on how to prepare food that is healthy, tasty, clean and nutritious, to increase their knowledge in preparing attractive food for students to eat at school,” She said.
