DILI, 12 december 2023 (TATOLI)- The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, officiated the swearing-in ceremony of six new Ambassadors of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to be assigned to the country: Singapore, Laos, Indonesia, TL representatives at the United Nations (UN), the Vatican, and Brazil.
Those ambassadors consist of:
- Dionísio da Costa Babo Soares, as the new Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to the United Nations, replacing the current Permanent Representative Karlito Nunes;
- António da Conceição, Ambassador of Timor-Leste to the Republic of Indonesia, replacing Ambassador Filomeno Aleixo da Cruz;
- Maria Ângela Guterres Viegas Carrascalão, Ambassador of Timor-Leste to the Federative Republic of Brazil, replacing Ambassador Olimpio Branco;
- Alexandre Vital da Cruz Araújo Tilman, Ambassador of Timor-Leste to the Republic of Singapore, replacing Ambassador Natalia Carrascalão;
- Filomeno Aleixo da Cruz, Ambassador of Timor-Leste to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, replacing Ambassador Maria Renata de Jesus;
- Chloé Tilman Dindo, Ambassador of Timor-Leste to the Holy See, is replacing Ambassador Juvita Barreto Gonçalves.
“The country’s established embassy is very important for Timor-Leste,” the head of state said in his speech on behalf of the swear-in ceremony that took place in the presidential palace in Bairru-Pité, Dili.
The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, asked the newly appointed ambassadors and all their staff to show generosity and dedication, establishing good relations with the countries where the TL Embassy is located.
“The Ambassador must share TL’s priorities in establishing multilateral and bilateral relations,” Horta suggested.
Ramos Horta also conveyed his success to the newly appointed ambassador and asked them to show good work performance for TL’s success
Likewise, ASEAN Deputy Minister of Cooperation and Foreign Affairs (MNEC), Milena Rangel, stated, “President Horta has sworn in six new ambassadors to replace the previous ambassador that would return to TL, as the new ambassador has been appointed.”.
The new ambassador’s position is reduced to three years, but depending on needs, it is usually extended to three years if possible.
