The recruitment is part of the Technical Internship Training Program between Japan and Timor-Leste, which was signed last week.
Rogério Mendonça told reporters in Dili that the eight companies were interested in recruiting Timorese technicians to work in the construction sector.
Sasaki Motoi, a representative of the Research Institute for Industry and Economics (RIIE), said that the Japanese private sector was interested in recruiting foreign workers, but stressed that the exact number of workers had not yet been decided: “It is important for the workers to have knowledge of the Japanese language.”
