UNFPA provides maternity equipment to Timor-Leste Ministry of Health

DILI,4 August 2020 (TATOLI)– Ministry of Health, received a second round of support in the form of maternity equipment from the United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA).

The first phase of equipment was distributed to Timor-Leste on July 30 for the establishment of maternity room and centre for isolation in Vera Cruz.

“The UNFPA has announced more medical equipment has been supplied such as electronic birthing bed, automatic radiant warmer for the infant, trolleys and other equipment,” The UNFPA Representative to Timor-Leste, Ronny Lindstrom, at the Vera-Cruz Health Center.

Despite, he said they had received an additional request from the Ministry of Health to provide equipment in the Maternity room at Vera Cruz Health Center. Thus they are starting to do the provisioning process.

The equipment being provided was announced on Friday, the UNFPA spends around $50.000 with the support of the Australian Government via DFAT.

“The UNFPA has provided the training to Doctors and Nurses in all Health Centers within Timor-Leste and also in the health care service to antenatal and intra birth care with post-birth,” he said.

The Minister of Health Odete Maria Freitas, said the support equipment is mostly related for pregnant women, especially those who contract COVID-19.

She also thanked the partners who have provided the support facilities.
