DILI, May 18, 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste records 176 new covid-19 infections and 111 recoveries, the Country CIGC said today.
Of the cases recorded today, 147 were identified in Capital Dili, Four were identified in Baucau, 14 in Covalima, six were found in Viqueque, one in Manatutu, and another one in Manufahi.
The coordinator of the CIGC Covid-19 Outbreak Prevention and Mitigation Task Force, Rui de Araújo, said that the country currently has 2,238 active infections with a total of 4,765 confirmed cases and ten deaths since the outbreak began in March 2020.
Araújo added that the proportion of those infected with symptoms is 7.9%. Among the cases detected today, 107 are men and 69 women.
According to Mr. Araújo 39 patients are under the treatment at Vera Cruz Isolation – 17 in the area of obstetrics, and 22 in internal medicine, two of whom are in serious condition and dependent on a ventilator, six with oxygen, and 14 are in the moderate conditions.
The National Health Laboratory (LNS) has carried out 1,116 laboratory tests since yesterday, 28 tests were performed through sentinel surveillance, 93 for contact screening, 172 for random screening, 702 requests for departure from the Municipality of Dili, 83 for international trips, and 38 in quarantines. In addition, on May 17, 606 tests were carried out in the municipalities.
Prevalence of infections in Dili
The CICG coordinator said that, about the proportion of cases detected in Dili, between 10 and 15 May, 3,101 people underwent tests following requests to leave the municipality, with 499, or 16%, tested positive.
The current prevalence of infections in the capital is between 14.8% and 17.4% compare to the previous week.
“Based on the population estimate in Dili, 50 thousand out of 352,553 inhabitants in Dili, are infected with covid-19”, says Araújo, in a statement.
