COVID-19 update: TL records another death, 267 infections

DILI, 20 august 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, reports another death, 267 new cases, 113 recoveries, and the active cases were 2.882.

Of the new cases, 152 were detected in Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including 35 in Baucau, 20 in Ainaro, 12 in Manufahi, 10 in Ermera, seven each in Aileu, RAEOA, and Viquequ, and five in Bobonaro.

The spokesperson of SIJK, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said of today’s cases, 33.3 percent were symptomatic.

He said of today’s cases, 195 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including 60 cases under 20 and 12 elderly persons over 60. These new cases are made up of 146 men and 121 women.

Araujo informed that 57 Covid-19 cases had been admitted to Vera Cruz Isolation Center for intensive, with 15 people in critical condition, one of whom required ventilation.

In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 960 PCR tests, including 101 sentinel surveillance tests, 408 through contact tracing, 86 via random screening, 335 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, and 30 in quarantines.

Today, SIJK registered another death in Timor-Leste.

The deceased was a man in his 50s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 and transferred to the Vera Cruz Isolation Center (VCIC) on august 7. He passed away yesterday at around 4.40 pm local time due to multiple organ failures.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 15.5 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 38.7, Manufahi 16.8, RAEOA 14.5, Covalima 10.1, Baucau 7.3, Liquica 7.0, and Ainaro 6.8.

The SIJK kept calling on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus as the SIJK’s records showed cases are again mounted in Dili, Ermera, and several municipalities.

There has been a total of 13.700 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 10.776 recoveries, active cases were 2.882 and 42 deaths, according to SIJK’s data.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 47.6 percent had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 21.0 percent have also received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Delta Variant

Timor-Leste reports local transmission of Delta variants in Dili and Ermera.

“Based on the test result of the 45 samples sending for further testing at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and immunity, on august 11, in Melbourne, Australia, indicated that 35 positive cases were infected with the Delta variant, consisting of 20 cases in Dili, and 15 others from Ermera municipality,” said Araujo.

Health authorities warned that there had been already a presence of community transmission of the Delta variant, calling on communities to get vaccinated with Covid1-9 vaccines and practicing the health protocols.

He added the Delta variant may have spread to other municipalities, where Covid-19 cases were mounted recently.
